Well hello there...

I haven't written in a while. I think it's because I might be a bit timid putting my personal life out there, saying too much, etc. But other people do it, right? :) But I'm also curious to see who would actually read my blog. :)

Let's talk about what I learned in church today:
Actions speak louder than words. Another example was given in church today, however I learned the same lesson while during my study abroad to Jerusalem. Elder Richard G. Scott was speaking to us along with Truman Madsen. He had each of us hold a piece of paper and told us to fold it lengthwise as we all watched him fold it width wise. You can guess what we all did, we folded it width wise. What a great lesson! We can't say one thing and be another. How are we supposed to be good examples to others if we don't live what we preach?

We all have free agency. A man got up in church and said he felt inadequate speaking on how to raise children because he had a "wayward" daughter that went to go live with her boyfriend in Louisiana. She had been the perfect golden child all growing up then one day, she decided she wanted a different life. So during his self loathing moment, he realized that everyone has free agency and that is part of God's plan. I've seen the impact one person's choices have had on their family members. It's no fun. But then again, I think we need to remember that it's not our fault, that people have free agency. I've seen a family beat themselves up over this child's decisions. If they would only rely on the Lord and let their pain go.

We should serve others. A friend of mine gave a talk today on service. One thing she mentioned is that sometimes when we serve others we think we are somehow better than the person we are serving. When we should be asking ourselves if we are worthy to serve. She said that she and her family would work at the local food donation center on Christmas. Yes, Christmas, when you want to be all snuggled up in your pjs. The kids were complaining, and the dad reminded them that Christ would be serving his fellow men on that day if he were still alive. Good point.

We will all have trials. Some of us may have the reaction "why me???" when being hit with something hard. We were taught that some of us look at others and say, "there is no way I could have survived that." But then again, others are probably looking at us with that same question. God has equiped us with the necessary tools to get through our trials. Because God can help us through anything. We just need to rely on him.

We are his hands. There was a statue of Christ that was destroyed during World War II. The repair took a long time. The only thing that wasn't able to be repaired were Christ's hands. Under the statue is inscribed "You are his hands." I think it is important to remember that we need to look for ways to serve those around us. Because you never know who needs a helping hand.
